Major Malfunction!

If you come upon a post and wonder why there's a weird black box with an exclamation mark in it, you may want to read this post to find out what has gone wrong. Still trying to figure out how to fix it all, without having to do each post manually. Until then, the black boxes remain. I thank you for your understanding. If you know someone that can help me, PLEASE send them my way!

You Look LIke A Lobster!

You know when you're young and stupid vibrant and want to be just like all of your other friends? You do things that you wouldn't necessarily do if you hadn't been influenced by those around you, right?

Let me tell you about a time when I was young and stupid vibrant and I decided to go with the crowd.

One summer when I was about 15, our youth group from church went up to some property that had a lake and a pool. It was a quiet little community with "cabins" aka travel trailers that didn't go anywhere and had porches and roofs built around them.

On one particular day, my friends and I decided that we were going to go swimming in the pool and lay out and catch some rays.

We get all of our stuff set up, we have our water and our towels are laid out. I've got my sunscreen and my friends have their oil.

There is a reason I had sunscreen with me. I don't tan. I fry.

But because I was young and stupid vibrant, I decided that it'd be fun to try the oil instead of my sunscreen.

I went swimming and I laid out with my friends and the sun was beating down and it was HOT.

I don't know how long we were there. A few hours probably. Sometime during the afternoon, I also fell asleep for a little while.

When we were done sitting by the pool, we went and did other things.

As the day wore on, my back became increasingly sensitive.

By the evening I wanted to strip off my clothes and walk around nekkid because I had THE WORST SUNBURN EVER. Pretty sure my back wanted to become one big blister!

I've never used OIL again, on my body.

I didn't really understand the appeal then and I certainly don't understand the appeal now.

Why would anyone choose to fry their body?! IT HURTS!!

What was the worst sunburn YOU ever had?

Ouch! That just hurts reading it! Really never understood oil... it IS frying your skin. OUCH!

Ouch! I remember once wearing oil that had glitter in it to help it be more "effective".

Needless to say, I learned my lesson. Your experience sounds really painful as well.

I succumbed to peer pressure on this one too when i was 15-16, and on more than one occasion (how "vibrant" can you be??) I got so burnt that I couldn't stand even being naked, it hurt so much.

The local remedy is to apply magnesium hydroxide, so on top of the pain you look stupid. Maybe that was the point? Hmmm..

Unfortunately, I know exactly what that feels like. I've had a few REALLY bad burns in my life and I'm pretty pale so I have to be careful. My last bad one was on our last vacation on a cruise. On the first day we sat outside for literally 2 hours and ended up with sun poisoning and burns so bad that we swelled up and could not move for the rest of the trip. It was horrible!

I was working on a roads crew in high school without sunscreen on the tops of my ears (but every where else). I ended up with 2nd degree burns because I was trying to 'man up' and not take a break to head back to the garage for more sunscreen. I still have scars 15 years later. Oh, youth.

I remember baking with baby oil every day. It's amazing that I never burned!

funny. i always tried tanning oil in high school and never saw results. i just naturally tanned, and never had a burn, no sunscreen required

and then i went to puerto rico on a missions trip. and didn't wear sunscreen one day because it was overcast. and got a horrid sunburn. so bad that it scabbed a couple of months later. i remember a girl in my office saying "i didn't know sun could DO that" when she saw my shoulders.
(the burn itself lasted at least 6 weeks, then there was the scabbing and other healing)

and ever since then i burn once or twice at the beginning of the summer and then tan the rest of it. we-ird though, that what was likely a case of sun poisoning actually led to me burning more frequently!
